The luxury division of Citroen, DS, has introduced the advanced and stylish DS4 compact hatchback. Slated for the European and Chinese markets initially, it boasts several facilities that make it an enjoyable, challenging, and elegant car in its segment.

The 173.2 inches long, 72.0 inches wide, and 57.9 inches tall luxury vehicle sits within Europe's compact segment, thus will rival the likes of the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. In terms of design, it is contemporary, sporty, and geometric.

There will be three variants: Base, Performance Line, and Cross. DS has offered a unique wheel/tire combination considered mainly to reduce tire and air resistance.

The interior is opulent thanks to the sophisticated materials that make it stand apart in its segment. Only the Mercedes-Benz offers such an interior, though in a traditional way.

The salient features include a touch-sensitive surface for the center console, an innovative voice recognition system, the Focal-branded stereo system, available night vision system, a head-up display, a matrix light system, the advanced daytime running lights, and suspension adjustment through a camera scanning the road surface.

Powering the DS4 will be three gas-powered mills generating 130, 180, and 225 horsepower outputs. Those looking for extra torque can opt for 130-hp turbo-diesel or the environmental friendly plug-in hybrid called E-Tense. The total power output stands at 225 horsepower. All the engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission handled through DS’ E-Toggle system.

Working under Stellantis Group's umbrella, DS will hold its own position. Its offerings will differ from Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and even from the U.S. brands. Unfortunately, the DS 4 will not be available for the U.S. customers, at least for now. DS chief designer Thierry Métroz confirmed it earlier.
