Ready for Great New Things? The 2021 Mazda CX-9 Has it All
It was great news to hear on August 18 that the much-loved Mazda CX-9 is getting a facelift for the 2021 model. It includes style updates, as well as new tech and comfort features to make it one of the finest luxury SUV models out there. This new model is expected onto the market quite soon, but some are still oblivious as to the main changes compared to 2020.

What’s new?
Mazda drivers will be delighted to learn that the new model will deliver all of the things you loved about the previous CX-9, but with a some very welcome additions, too. It is still the three-row crossover SUV model, and will retain the enhancements to areas like torque and ADAS features that it received in 2020.
One of the first changes is in the central touchscreen display. Instead of the standard 7” display that was offered in the previous incarnation with an option to upgrade to 9”, the 2021 model will include a standard 10.3” across all models. This will also feature the latest version of Mazda Connect, bringing together all your media, navigation, hands-free phone and other digital needs in one handy, easy-to-use place.
Carbon Edition
Perhaps the most exciting news is that the CX-9 will have a new version --- the Carbon Edition --- with absolutely stunning black 20” alloys, black door mirrors, and an unforgettable, head-turning exterior Polymetal Gray colour. The interior of this masterpiece will feature superb seats in red leather with a gorgeous black metallic trim. This is the kind of Mazda edition that makes you fall in love with this iconic brand all over again.
All the features you love are back
Other features that made the previous year’s Mazda CX-9 so popular and adored will be back in the 2021 CX-9 model:
- Heated front seats
- Keyless entry and push-button start
- Automatic climate control with three-zone function
- 3” touchscreen
Upgrade to the Touring model for leather-trimmed seats and additional USB charging points for the passengers in the back. There’s also a surround-view monitor and driver HUD when you upgrade to the 2021 CX-9 Grand Touring model, with sumptuous Nappa leather and divine Santos Rosewood trim.

The powertrain will be a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine delivering around 227hp and 420Nm in torque, helping to create a fun and dynamic driving experience in your luxury Mazda SUV. Perhaps one drawback for some will be the price point. It’s expected that the various CX-9 models will all come in at a greater price than their 2020 predecessors. That’s perhaps the price of doing business, though. New gear and new features will inevitably mean a little more cost. We’re happy to say, however, that Mazda seems to have controlled it to well within acceptable margins, with the biggest cost increases only being experienced by the very highest trims.
Once again, the 2021 Mazda CX-9 seems bound to impress and amaze.
