The 2021 Toyota Corolla: Going Forward Together
In 2020, Toyota’s top-selling model received a full remodel and face-lift to welcome the new decade. It has certainly proved popular and successful, even being named the 2020 Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal. As we approach the 2021 model year, it seems that the attitude of Toyota is to not tamper with a formula that is working.
What does this mean? In short, it means we shouldn’t expect anything significantly different for the 2021 year. First, the new Corolla will come in 8 distinct colour options, with the base price of approximately US$19,825 (AU$27,370). It will also be available either as a combustion engine model, or as a hybrid loaded with Toyota’s industry-leading technology.
The exterior features many of the same attractive lines that have made the 2020 model so popular, including the enlarged lower front grille, wonderful mixture of sharp lines and curves, as well as edgy and artistic alloy wheels to make especially the higher trims really stand out from the competition. The interior continues Toyota’s self-styled “sensuous minimalism.” Go for the higher trim levels to get the sumptuous SofTex synthetic leather throughout. You can also add ambient lighting, an 8” touchscreen, and an impressive 34.8” of legroom for rear passengers. The touchscreen is also fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2021 range will also feature the gorgeous SE Nightshade Edition, with its unique black styling throughout for that head-turning look that makes a killer impression everywhere it goes. From blacked-out wheels to a blag grille and other chic accents, the Nightshade is the Corolla made to seriously impress. The top of the trim pile is the XSE, which features all the premium features, including a larger engine.
As to performance, the 2021 Toyota Corolla continues to be as impressive as it is attractive. The combustion engine model can achieve 31mpg in the city and 38 on the highway (32mpg combined) when powered by its 1.8L inline-four engine delivering 139hp and 126lb-ft of torque. The larger 2.0L engine option in the SE or XSE trims give more horsepower and torque (169hp and 151lb-ft), but roughly the same fuel consumption. Whichever 2021 Corolla you choose, you will get sharp handling even on the toughest corners, and thus a fun and enjoyable ride every time.
Finally, the 2021 Corolla promises to continue the brand’s exceptional record on safety technology. The Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 package comes as standard, and includes pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, steering assistance, road sign assist and more features. These features help to take some of the pressure off, especially when you’re driving in a new place.
With top value, top features and a continuation of the successful 2020 formula, the 2021 Toyota Corolla is shaping up to be everything you could want in a reliable sedan and more.
