Changan Ford Will Handle Mustang Mach-E’s Production in China
Ford has already started deliveries of their first electric Mustang in America, and customers love it. The company aims to produce 50K units of the Mustang Mach-E every year; however, they could only develop less than 10K units until now. It will not be an issue for the company since Ford has decided to create the all-electric crossover in China.
The company’s “Best of Ford, Best of China” plan aims at “offering Chinese customers, industry-leading smart vehicles and advanced technologies.” Changan Ford will handle all the development processes in China, at least for the time being. These Mach-E vehicles will be accessible to only Chinese customers.
Worth noting, the Mustang Mach-E will be available only in GT variant from the start. It will feature the same powertrain as found in American and European models. However, the Chinese Mustang Mach-E has a little different design.
Ford did not disclose when they plan to start production and the customers' delivery date. Reportedly, it will happen around the summer of 2021.
Changan Ford will build the top-of-the-line Mustang Mach-E GT as per customer’s demand. The company says it is “an unprecedented move by a global automaker to manufacture high-performance editions locally.”
Those who are not familiar, the zero-emission Mustang Mach-E delivers 480 horsepower (358 kilowatts) and 634 pound-feet (860 Newton-meters) of torque. This power is adequate to take the flagship electric pony from standstill to 60 miles per hour (0-96 kilometers per hour) in only 3.7 seconds. Ford estimates, a full charge should provide enough juice to the crossover to complete 250 miles (378 km) of distance.
