Hyundai Kona N To Land In the U.S. After Its European Debut
After introducing the Veloster N hatchback and Elantra N sedan, Hyundai has unveiled the Kona N model for people who love to push the boundaries. The automaker just confirmed that it would be accessible in the U.S. later this year, while its European launch will happen in a few weeks.
The Hyundai's third high-performance N model will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four under the hood, churning out 275 horsepower and 260 pound-foot torque. If the specs seem familiar, it is because it borrows the mill from the Veloster N.
However, the Kona N will not use the standard six-speed manual transmission from the Veloster. Rather it will be assisted by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that the automaker has made available for the 2021 Veloster N. The company did not specify yet if the Kona N is a front- or an all-wheel-drive?
No doubt, a manual gearbox offers a more engaging driving experience, but we have no qualms with the DCT. Its performance potential is unmatchable and knowing how good the Veloster N drives, we can bet the Kona N will be fast.
According to CarandDriver, the Veloster N hit the 60 mph mark in only 4.9 seconds during their road test.
The Kona N variant we see in the picture comes with a more assertive body kit, bigger wheels and tires, some extra goodies like a rear spoiler, and dual exhaust tips.
Hyundai is working toward building its N line up and has plans to introduce an N model for its famous Tucson crossover as well.
We will give you further information about the Hyundai Kona N, as it makes its European debut in the next few weeks.
