2021 Hyundai Bayon Debuts With Distinct Design And Roomy Interior
Hyundai has introduced a new model Bayon, which is actually a crossover version of the i20 supermini sold in the European markets. It measures pretty close to the Kona, unlike the previous reports.
It is 4.18 meters (164.5 inches) long, 1.77 meters (69.7 inches) wide, and 1.49 meters (58.6 inches) tall, which makes it slightly shorter than the new Kona (4.21 meters / 165.9 inches). However, it is a tad tighter and has a lower roofline. The subcompact crossover’s roofline is also a little shorter than Kona. Regarding the boot space, the 2021 Hyundai Bayon offers 411 liters (14.5 cubic feet) or 1,205 liters (42.5 cubic feet) with rear seats folded, which outdoes the Kona.

The question is why the automaker developed a new B-segment model Bayon when they have a similar-sized Kona. Hyundai’s idea was to create a more practical and value-oriented vehicle for people not needing an AWD or an EV. Therefore, Hyundai created such a design that sends quirky vibes thanks to the trendy split headlights, Tucson-type sharp character lines and boomerang LED light signature at the rare.
While the exterior doesn’t look like the i20 supermini, the interior borrows a few things from it, like the duo of a 10.25-inch display - one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment.
The engine choices are also familiar. The 2021 Hyundai Bayon gets a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter gasoline mill generating 84 horsepower, mating to a traditional five-speed manual transmission. The more powerful turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder delivers 100 hp and gives you a choice between a six-speed manual and dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic. There is also a 120-horsepower version of the 1.0-liter turbo featuring a mild-hybrid system.
The automaker did not reveal the pricing information yet.
