The 2022 Polestar 2 spawns a single-motor, front-wheel-drive model to attract more customers toward the electric hatchback. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive variant will now be available in a more basic setting, giving more customizations options. The pricing details aren’t revealed yet but the company said the new models will come with a lower base price than the presently available Launch Edition.

The new single-motor Polestar 2 will feature the same 78.0-kWh battery pack accessible in the dual-motor model. However, contrary to the 204 hp created on each axle for the dual-motor model, the single-motor variant generates only 231 hp. The 2022 Polestar 2 single-motor variant will deliver 260 miles of range, according to company estimates. EPA estimate for the dual-motor variant is 230 miles.

For the new dual-motor Polestar 2, customers will be able to pick simpler settings by choosing among Plus, Pilot, and Performance packages.

Those looking for extra opulence and more range may like to opt for the ‘Plus’ package. It now comes with a heat pump, which is capable of increasing its range by up to 10%. The pump grabs the heat created by the drivetrain and uses it to heat the vehicle’s interior, thus eliminating the need to use the battery for this purpose. The automaker estimates that while driving the Polestar 2 between 40 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit, drivers can attain a 10% range improvement.

The company did not tell how much each option will cost the buyers. However, they did mention bringing the 2022 Polestar 2 single-motor variant in the fall of this year. The fully-loaded dual-motor Launch Edition is already on sale.
