The Japanese tech giant Sony introduced its Vision-S concept a year ago. The company has now released a video showing the electric vehicle taking test drives on roads around Austria.

Sony has installed 40 sensors in the Vision-S electric vehicle that are part of different active safety systems. We expect the EV to come with some useful semi-autonomous tech, as well.

Talking about the powertrain, Sony unveiled the concept car featuring two 200kW electric motors fixed on each axle for an all-wheel-drive. The company’s estimates tell that the EV will be able to zoom from zero to 100km/h in less than five seconds.

While Sony didn’t give details about the battery packs, experts believe they will be highly advanced with an extended drive range and fast charging capability.

However, we can expect to have an immersive and entertaining driving experience inside from a company popular for its home entertainment.

Sony says the Vision-S electric vehicle will offer over-the-air software updates, in addition to a 'cloud-based' artificial intelligence system.

While Apple’s ‘Project Titan’ is in the news for all the right reasons, Sony is quietly working on its first car. However, both technology companies face a similar problem, i.e., production.

Both the tech firms have the funds and the engineers to create a concept vehicle, but building a production car is an enormous task.

The recent rumors say that Hyundai may have a deal to develop Apple’s upcoming EV. In the same lines, reportedly, Sony’s Vision-S EV will be built by the Austrian company Steyr.

While Sony did not confirm it, we know from the concept announcement in 2020 when CEO Kenichiro Yoshida showed gratitude to Steyr on stage. The testing is also being done in Steyr's home country of Austria.

Sony hasn’t given us any date of the EV’s production yet and is just touting the car as a “testbed for technological innovation.”
