First Standalone Kia EV Leaked in A Video
We have just witnessed Kia’s first standalone EV's official video through Caradvice. Dubbed Kia CV, the electric vehicle will fall in the mid-size SUV segment.
While it’s our first chance to see the production-bound CV, we cannot deduce much from the screenshot. However, we know the EV will take lots of its design cues from the Imagine Kia Concept, the company was revealed at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show. The yet-to-be-named electric utility vehicle has the same high-riding, coupe-like design.
At the back, we can see a full-width, curved LED tail-light bar as well as Kia’s fresh company logo. Unfortunately, we cannot say much about the front-end design because we do not have any front image. That said, spy shots expose cab-forward design with a low front end, thin glasshouse, and an emerging beltline.
Kia will reveal the electric vehicle in a couple of months featuring the Hyundai/Kia group's Electric Modular Global Platform (E-GMP), which is the same the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will have.
While the mechanical details are unknown yet, the E-GMP platform is capable of spawning rear- and all-wheel-drive layouts and an 800V construction, and an 80% charge on a 350kW DC fast charger in only 18 minutes.
Reportedly, the Kia CV will come with a 230kW all-wheel-drive powertrain, and a 450-550km range employing 58kWh or 73kWh lithium-ion batteries. The 0-100km/h time would be 5.2 seconds.
Furthermore, Kia has plans to introduce the high-performance variant of the CV, which will make use of the full potential of the new EV platform.
